Nepal 2 - Bhatakapur

We, well actually Ian, got up for the sunrise again this morning but it was even mistier than yesterday so we just snuggled down for a couple more hours and watched progress through the gap in the curtains.

After breakfast we checked out and did the long, bumpy ride back down to Kathmandu Valley.

Back in the 1600s the King of Nepal had 3 sons and he gave each of them a city to rule; Kathmandu, Patan and Bhatakpur and it was this latter one we visited on the way to our next hotel.

Although badly damaged by the 2015 earthquake I have never seen a place like it before and it was absolutely fascinating.  Most of the buildings are of red brick with intricate wooden carvings.

A few random photos

I wish I'd moved to the left before taking this; the writing on the wall says Shoes Are Not Allowed - clearly goats are.

Pottery Square was also very interesting, as the name suggests most people in the square were making pots.

There was some kind of Hindu ceremony going on.

This little boy look so cool in his sunglasses but after I'd photographed him (with his permission of course) I realised he probably had some form of restricted growth

Egg boxes anyone?

After checking into the Radisson Hotel we went for a wander to nearby Thamel which is an area mainly frequented by backpackers.  The traffic was awful, very smelly and practically impossible to cross the roads as no notice is taken of pedestrian crossings and scooters/motorbikes weave in and out of the cars from all angles.
